If you’re looking for your daily pop fix but you’re tired of hearing the usual overplayed dance/electro-pop that’s been dominating the airwaves lately, there is a cure. She goes by ‘My Name Is Kay’ and her eponymous EP, which dropped worldwide at the end of February is starting to make waves.
She’s got a very distinct style, combining her history as an emcee with irresistable pop hooks over funky beats, which ends up sounding different than anything else out there. Given, most of these pop hooks and funky beats are probably due to her collaboration with the king of catchy himself, Ryan Tedder. Tedder not only helped her sign with Interscope, but also co-wrote numerous tracks on the EP, such as the title track which has been gaining radio play in Canada, Kay’s home and native land. Nonetheless, My Name Is Kay manages to deliver a spunky but genuine attitude with hip-hop and pop flavour all on her own. Check out the super catchy title track of her EP below!
