It’s well known that Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles are BFFs, but the fact that Michaelson is married to brilliant, lesser-known singer-songwriter Greg Laswell, is lesser-known. Now Laswell and Bareilles have collaborated on a great duet, “Come Back Down”, mashing up the most epic of their distinct piano-and-percussion-driven styles, adding loads of reverb and a catchy backbeat to Laswell’s usual intellectually romantic lyricism, which this time is a little more aggressive and bleak.
The song, I assume, acts as a message to a friend to just fucking get over it already:
“All of your wallowing is unbecoming / You’ve got to take it on your own from here / It’s getting pathetic and I’m almost done”
I love the production on this track, and though the song is made with a fairly mean-spirited lyricism, it has a decently relatable message and a catchy hook.
It’s the first single off Laswell’s new album, due out April 24th on Vanguard. I can’t wait.
