New Shins

I bet you forgot all about James Mercer and crew. I don’t blame you, I did too. We all know about the sprint to modern day indie-folk glory on the back of a choice scene from Garden State. Every review of the Shins ever talks about that, so I apologize. Anyways, three Sub Pop albums followed. The latest one was kind of brutal. A hiatus followed that as Mercer joined forces with Danger Mouse to form Broken Bells, other band members split off into varying fields. One even started his own food truck in downtown Portland. I had heard of the band’s upcoming record, what I did not expect was a return to form. Little did I know, the time off seems to have done The Shins a lot of good. Their first release from the upcoming album, “Simple Song”, is quite possibly the best things the group has ever done.
