I planned to post on the music of Parenthood (the 2010 TV series, beautifully written by Jason Katims and co.) today, but this caught my eye and it’s brilliant.
Josh Schwartz (creator of Chuck, The OC, and Gossip Girl) and Alexandra Patsavas (music supervisor for all of Schwartz’s shows plus Grey’s Anatomy, Mad Men, and dozens of others)–the two people partially responsible for, and instrumental in the mainstream discovery of Death Cab for Cutie and Nirvana, respectively (an interesting story for another time)–executive produce the web series Rockville, CA, which showcases relatively unknown indie acts playing excellent live sets (Kaiser Chiefs, Passion Pit, Bishop Allen, Lykke Li, Frightened Rabbit, Anya Marina, The Republic Tigers, Earlimart, and The Kooks, to name a few of the ones you’ve heard of) and Schwartz’s signature sharp banter. It’s quite good, and pokes fun at the indie music scene and over-publicized blogosphere.
Take a watch. It’s worth your time.
